Profile
This playground renovation for preschool aged children at Ingersoll Children’s Centre in Oxford County was long-hoped-for by the children and their caregivers.
The previous site condition offered little affordances for play, but large sloping site topography, open lawn space and mature trees offered enormous potential to create a unique and exciting natural playground experience.
The playground design solution makes use of all of the existing site features with integrated hill sliding and climbing, areas of respite below mature tree canopies and a spacious design layout. The oversized tricycle loop provides hours of fun and entertainment while tying together a network of creative, active and dramatic play nooks to be discovered.
A small timber climber gives active children who are keen to discover risky play an opportunity to test and develop their gross motor skills. A play hut is the perfect place for friends to gather and engage in imaginative play. An outdoor kitchen is a gathering space for creative sand play.
