Moberly Park

About the Park
Moberly occupies a bench of land overlooking south Vancouver and Richmond, offering expansive views that are impressive in all seasons. Towering trees create a shaded grove for the playground and fieldhouse.

History
This site was part of the South Vancouver municipality, before amalgamation in 1929, and was acquired through tax sales. It was named for the nearby school which is named for Canadian Pacific Railway explorer and surveyor Walter Moberly. Moberly is also famous for discovering Eagle Pass (now the Kicking Horse Pass) which the first transcontinental train would one day pass through on its first trip to Vancouver in 1886.

The South Slope Community Association was instrumental in the development of the park’s first community hall in 1955 and again canvassed the neighbourhood in 1958 when the original facility was destroyed by fire.
