Profile
The activities are separated into two sections: one for toddlers and one for youngsters aged 6 and up. The places are located on opposing sides of the green belt. The toddler area’s focal point is a multipurpose playhouse with several stairways, a slide, and an adjoining shop. Rocking geese circle them, guarded by the life-size sculpture “Gänseliesel.” The spectrum of games is completed with a swing, hammock, and sandpit. The centre playhouse is accordingly taller and more difficult to access for the older youngsters. The grass course surrounding the playhouse provides several chances for climbing, balancing, and gymnastics. Large and tiny nets, as well as resting seats, beckon you to unwind.
The Ungewitterweg children’s playground in Berlin-Spandau is abuzz once more. The chatter of the wooden geese may be heard from afar, but it is the children who provide life to the “Gänsewiese” playground. The playground is located on the green corridor of Staaken’s garden city, which was developed in the 1920s by landscape architect Ludwig Lesser. It is a listed building and serves as the garden city’s major open area. The Green Spaces Office sponsored a competition to remodel the playground. SIK-Holz® was granted the contract when the procedure was completed.
The play areas should blend in with the garden city’s overall aesthetic and include architectural aspects from the surrounding region. The town was designed as a model settlement by architect Paul Schmitthenner. Floor layouts and facades are both beautifully proportioned. The use of ornamental jewellery was mostly avoided. The design of the garden city has subtle nods to neighbouring Potsdam, particularly the Dutch Quarter. As a result, a characteristic Dutch gable was incorporated in the design of the playhouses inside the play facilities. All other posts outside the playhouses were made to seem like grass, allude to the settlement’s name “Garden City.”
