Profile
The Huron Natural Area in south Kitchener is a beautiful 200+ acre park with forest trails around a spring fed pond. It is a popular spot for weekend walks and a variety of outdoor activity programming by the City. It was also an obvious location for a natural playground – a great destination for nature lovers and families, much like Exhibition Park in Guelph!
The spacious playscape encourages children to explore and challenge themselves on the custom designed log play elements. A large log jam® offers the highest degree of difficulty where children must assess their own limits and abilities to determine how high and how far they are ready to climb. A smaller log jam® is ideal for younger children who may want to test their limits on a smaller structure. Using topographical changes for play, children can negotiate routes up the log steppers to zip down the mini hill slide that is integrated into this natural play space. Bog stilts and play posts allow creativity and promote balancing skills.
A large, accessible sand and water play zone is a spot where kids can get a bit dirty and very creative. The hand pump encourages children to work together to access and collect the water for their sandy creations! The City keeps a Seacan full of loose parts materials onsite for programming and events to help to further augment the value of the natural play space.
