Profile
Tivoli is an iconic amusement park in Copenhagen, Denmark. The park opened in 1843 and is the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world. The park is known for its high quality in every aspect of the place. With beautiful colors, good materials and an eye for maintaining an overall aesthetic line, Tivoli is a must see when visiting the city of Copenhagen. It was therefore a pleasure for MONSTRUM to design and produce a large playground area for the garden. The playground is situated in an area of Tivoli with the theme of Petzi’s World – a Danish cartoon character well known by Danish kids of all ages. The design of the playground is based on the visuals of the cartoon.
The ship Mary is the main element of the playground and is a replica of the ship from the cartoon.
The playground has more than 30 elements among other a submarine for the kids to dive and explore the deep waters.
INVESTING IN THE PLAYGROUNDS OF TIVOLI
Tivoli’s major new initiative in 2010 was Petzi’s World. In cooperation with the award winning American architect, Jumana J. Brodersen, and Tivoli’s architect, Jonathan Wright, MONSTRUM designed and built more than 30 new playground elements for a 1.300 m2 large playground.
The area incorporates playing islands connected by rope ladders. Balancing equipment extends from the ship Mary, the submarine and the raft, and leads up to the nine meter tall lighthouse.
The playground is incorporated into the area with old elements from the Petzi’s world play area. The big whale, the café inside and the tower was already made when MONSTRUM got the task of designing the playground.
There are chairs and tables inside the boat for the kids to play that they are onboard a real ship.
The ship has two slides with impact material underneath to prevent the kids from landing too hard on the ground. The colors of the playground are set to fit the colors of the cartoon.
